(THR) Russian animation producer Wizart Animation is to release its latest film, family adventure Sheep and Wolves, across China in August.
The film, which tells the story of a magical land where a flock of sheep faces the end of care-free days when a pack of wolves moves to a nearby ravine, features the voice talents of Australian actress Ruby Rose (Orange Is the New Black), British star Tom Felton (Harry Potter), China Anne McClain (A.N.T. Farm, Grown Ups) and Ross Marquand (The Walking Dead), among others.
The Chinese deal, with local partner Flame Node Entertainment, comes after the successful release last year of the first installment of Snow Queen.
A Wizart spokeswoman told The Hollywood Reporter that U.S. and U.K. releases were also currently being negotiated.
About the China release, she said that it would be wide, but the number of screens is yet to be determined.
Flame Node is partnering with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba as merchandising partner for the release. Yuri Moskvin, Wizart producer, said: "China is a key territory for us, and we hope viewers will love the movie. I believe Flame Node and Alibaba will bring the powerful performances of Sheep and Wolves to as wide an audience as possible."
The film has already sold theatrically to Italy (Barter Entertainment), Spain (European Dreams Factory) and Portugal (Lanterna de Pedra Filmes), among others, and has already been released in Russia, the Baltics, Romania, Mongolia and Turkey. Apart from China, it is due to roll out in a further 40 countries during the summer and fall.
The company is repping the movie and the third Snow Queen film for unsold territories at the Cannes market and is announcing the start of work on a sequel to Sheep and Wolves.
