(CRI) The "Star Trek Beyond" press tour has made it to Asia, with cast and crew jetting into Beijing to promote the space adventure movie.

Director Justin Lin was joined by cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Simon Pegg at a red carpet event.

The film's screenplay is co-written by Simon Pegg, who returns as Scotty.

Speaking in Beijing, Pegg says "Star Trek Beyond" can be enjoyed by complete newcomers to the franchise.

"If you've never seen a "Star Trek" film, this is a great place to start. It'll introduce you to the characters, it'll give you the taste of what is all about. If you have seen "Star Trek" before then there are benefits there also. But if you're new to "Star Trek," come and join the party, because it's a cracking one."

Lin, who took over the reins from J.J. Abrams for the third film in the rebooted franchise, says he had spoken to numerous people in China before making the movie.

"You know it was very interesting. Before I made this film, I spent a lot of time in China and I talked to a lot of people on why they go to movies, what kind of movies they want to see. And the thing that

I got back was that everyone here, such great people and they work so hard, and they want to get a sense of like to escape and to really kind of just enjoy, have fun, laugh and enjoy big action, and I feel like this movie is tailor-made for the Chinese audience."

The new movie sees Pine and Quinto reprise their roles as Captain Kirk and Commander Spock respectively.

At the press conference, Quinto admitted that the death of original Spock Leonard Nimoy in 2015 affected his portrayal of the legendary character in Star Trek Beyond.

"I don't think I feel like extra pressure. I feel a little bit more of a sense of the responsibility of honoring Leonard (Nimoy) and his legacy and the legacy of the character that he created."

"Star Trek Beyond" opens in China on Sept. 2.
