The first season of the singing competition show was number one over seven weeks and broke online records for video views.

Star China appears to have a hit on its hands with Sing! China.

The singing competition, which the group launched on the Zhejiang Satellite TV network this summer, has broken television and online viewing records, topping the ratings seven weeks in a row and recording billions of online views, according to Star.

In figures released Wednesday, Star China said the show, in which singers compete to be the country's next music star, took a 30 percent-plus share of the national audience, more than five times China's number two show for the same time slot.

The concept of Sing! China has four judges who race each other, in chariots, to the stage to win the contestant they want for their team.

The show's final takes place this Friday at the Beijing National Stadium.

Star China previously produced The Voice of China together with Talpa Global, the Dutch producer that owns the rights to the hit singing format with the signature spinning chairs.

Talpa ended its deal with Star earlier this year and filed legal action against the company, claiming Star China took “unauthorized and unlawful” actions in relation to The Voice format.

Star China will be selling the Sing! China format to buyers at MIPCOM, the international TV market, which runs Oct. 17-20 in Cannes.

Star China's businesses range from TV production, networks, filmmaking to artist management, music and concert production. It is owned by China Media Capital. It has three satellite TV channels that cover the Chinese-speaking audience in mainland China and also in Hong Kong, Macau and
Southeast Asia.
